Bali Sani: CBG's Fifth Annual Concert

Chicago Balinese Gamelan welcomes guest artists Ketut Gede Asnawa and Putu Oka Mardiani and visiting artists from Bali Indra Sadguna and Ayu Made Desiari for the most exciting CBG performance to date!

This performance was made possible in part with support from the American Indonesian Cultural & Education Foundation.


Since it was founded in 1971 AICEF has supported advanced degrees for over 300 Indonesian students at universities in the United States and given grants to leading US performing arts organizations, universities, to increase the awareness of the cultures of Indonesia.  The foundation is a membership organization with interests in education, economic development, the environment, and cultural exchange.

CBG is excited to welcome additional and replacement instruments to its gong kebyar set!

Instruments arrived Fall 2021 thanks to support from generous friends and partners! Photos below courtesy of Ivan Indrautama.

The purchase included:

  • additional gangsa kantilan

  • two additional melody instruments

  • trompong

  • 5 pairs ceng-ceng kopiak

  • partner gong

  • replacement middle gong

  • replacement high gong

  • overseas shipping fees


The purchase improves and advances the quality of sound of the overall ensemble; creates opportunities for new and expanded ensemble membership; provides new and richer learning experiences for new and existing ensemble members; and expands CBG’s repertoire to include baleganjur, gong gede and other gamelan styles.

Thanks to gifts from generous supporters,
CBG raised the funds needed to to complete the purchase.


Instruments are expected to arrive in Chicago in Fall 2021!
